Prediction 7: Chairman Oberstar's Transportation Plan: A Costly Exercise in Social Engineering

Transportation is a system requiring lots of resources and thought. It is my belief that new transportation methods will be created that enable a cost efficient means for Americas' populous to get from one place to another - together. These methods will encourage pooling of traffic where teams of people will be headed to the same destination. Also, these methods will be in high competition with airlines, causing the already competitive transportation market to turn into a cost cutting efficiency finding frenzy.

The government is working on creating some of these methods; however, I believe the real breakthrough will be in the private sector. I believe some sort of magnetically levitated train or something similar could easily be built over existing infrastructure that would speed the transit of people from point A to point B across America. My prediction for the time frame for this technology is that it will be seen within the next ten years.
