New Penny Article
In March 2008 it cost 1.7 cents to mint a penny. It takes two seconds to earn one cent for the average American. I believe more than two seconds is wasted on each transaction dealing in pennies. In 1857 the half cent was discontinued, with a buying power of 11 cents.
However, I believe that the penny will not be discontinued within the next 15 years. This is based on the reprinting of the new penny and the transaction sales structure currently in place. This is sad- the sooner the better!
