To piggy back off prediction 9, "Do we need the penny?" I will examine what would happen if physical forms of money are used/carried less often.
1. Businesses will be paying credit card companies more for transaction fees
2. Businesses will have less operating costs from tracking, depositing and handling physical dollars and cents. (In my opinion this almost makes up for #1)
3. There will be less ATM's available for use.
here is my source of inspiration
(the number of monthly transactions per ATM has been down!)
(The percentage of cash transactions dropped from 43% in 2001 to 25% in 2003)
4. Consumers will be spending more because its easier to part with electronic money, and things can be charged to credit.
5. Garage-sales and street vendors may loose some sales, this may be more hampering to small business.
That's all for now, discuss.
